The best scarf slogans are short, all caps and high contrast: about 15 characters on a classic knit, 25 on an HD knit. Here are 50 ideas sorted by who is wearing the scarf, plus the rules that keep them readable from across the stadium.

A good scarf slogan fits in a few words, reads from the other end of the stand and says right away who you are. Aim for about 15 characters on a classic knit and 25 on an HD knit, in capitals, with strong contrast against the background. Below are 50 starting points sorted by group, followed by the rules that make text knit well.

Swap the brackets for your own details. Everything here is generic on purpose: only use names and marks you own or have permission to use.

Rules for readable scarf text

1. Respect the length for each technique

  • Classic knit: about 15 characters, spaces included.
  • HD knit: about 25 characters, at the same letter height but with finer stitches.
  • HD woven and sublimated satin: finer text is possible, but a few words still read best from a distance.

If a line is too long, cut it: “[CITY]” often works better than “[CITY] SOCCER CLUB”. Our knit vs. woven scarves comparison helps you match the technique to your text.

2. Use capitals

Capitals have regular shapes that knit cleanly. Lowercase letters with descenders (g, p, y) lose detail in a knit. Skip script and very thin fonts too.

3. Push the contrast

The text has to stand out against the background: white on navy, gold on black, white on red, gold on maroon. Avoid close pairs like yellow on white or navy on black. You pick from 16 yarn colors, matched to your Pantone references on the proof. A striped scarf can carry your colors at the ends while a solid center keeps the text legible.

4. Plan both sides

On a knit scarf, the back is the negative of the front: same text, swapped colors, so check that the reversed version still reads. On HD woven and satin, use the two sides for two different messages: team name on the front, season or motto on the back. More on double-sided scarves.

5. Count punctuation

Apostrophes, ampersands and exclamation points all take up stitches. On a 15-character line, they count. Drop the final “!” if space runs short.

6. Proofread and check the rights

Read the text letter by letter, especially names, years and abbreviations. And only use names, slogans and marks that belong to you or that you are licensed to use.

Test your line before you order

The safest move is to see the text in place. In the scarf configurator, type your ideas, change the text and background colors and check the stitch-by-stitch preview on a knit. When a version clicks, send it for a quote: a designer checks legibility and sends your free digital proof within 24 business hours, with unlimited revisions before production.

  • Custom wedding scarves

Custom wedding scarves start at 50 pieces with your names and date: sublimated satin for full color and photos, HD woven for an elegant look, and a knit for a fall or winter wedding. Order at least two months before the big day.

  • How to design a team scarf

To design a team scarf, pick a technique, set two high-contrast colors, keep the text to about 15 characters, add a clean logo, order at least 50 pieces and approve your free digital proof. Production then takes 4 to 6 weeks, so work back from the date you need them.

  • How to wash a knit scarf

Wash a knit scarf in cold or lukewarm water, up to 86°F (30°C), by hand or on the gentle cycle in a mesh bag, then lay it flat to dry. Keep it out of the dryer. Woven and satin scarves follow the same rules, with a cool iron on the back if needed.

Frequently asked questions

How many characters fit on a scarf?

About 15 characters on a classic knit and 25 on an HD knit, spaces included. HD woven and sublimated satin allow finer text, but a short line always reads better from a distance.

Can each side of the scarf say something different?

Yes, on HD woven and sublimated satin, which are made of two faces joined together. On a knit scarf, the back repeats the front with the colors reversed.

Can we use a famous team's chant or motto?

Only if you hold the rights. Team names, crests and trademarked slogans belong to their owners, so write a line that is yours: your city, your group, your inside joke.

Should scarf text be in all caps?

Almost always. Capital letters have simpler, more regular shapes that knit cleanly and read from farther away.
